What is NLP?

NLP comes from the terms:
Neuro (Central Nervous System)
Linguistic (Language)
Programming (Behavioural patterns)
NLP is the observation, investigation, and description of human behavioural patterns, for the purpose of transferring patterns of excellence, high standards of achievement and behavioural flexibility, to anyone who wishes to achieve this via the process of modelling.
Founders John Grinder and Richard Bandler studied the patterns of three outstanding therapists of the time to discover what made them so successful. Their names were  Fritz Perls (the father of Gestalt Therapy), Virginia Satir (Family Therapist) and Milton Ericson (Psychiatrist, Hypnotist)
Essentially their study uncovered the patterns and techniques of: HOW we do what we do. They have brought to life - success strategies that are now "within reach" for everyday people to apply.
NLP is reprogramming the hard wired patterns or templates in our brains that are no longer useful, outdated or hold us back from creating what we want. With new coding (using NLP techniques) it changes the way we communicate and therefore the way we behave, without having to be consciously aware of it.
Think of it like a computer, if you have a file that is no longer useful, you can delete it, store it, upgrade it or create a new one. NLP works along similar lines, by changing hard wired patterns (files) so that you are more aligned with what your desired outcomes are.
